The movie is about a woman named Bliss who has been living her life in a state of blissful ignorance. She doesn’t know anything about the world, and she’s content with that. Her husband, Jack, is an inventor who wants to share his knowledge with her.

The bliss (2017 movie ending explained) is a film directed by David Lynch. The plot of the film has been analyzed and the ending has been revealed.

Mike Cahill, the director of mind-bending films like Another Earth and I Origins, has directed Bliss, a psychological thriller set in 2021. The plot follows a guy who has had a bad marriage, is dismissed from his work, and meets a strange lady who tries to convince him that his reality is really a computer simulation. Salma Hayek and Owen Wilson play the main roles in the film. The film raises a lot of issues and is fascinating from one point of view. So, here’s a look at the storyline of the 2021 film Bliss and how it ends.

The following are connections to important elements of the film:

The Plot of the Film Bliss

Anyone’s main concern is determining which reality was genuine. This film, in my view, makes a lot more sense if you think of it as a symbolic portrayal of one person’s drug addiction and recovery.

The issue with viewing Bliss as a science fiction picture is that it isn’t very good.

There are far too many story holes. It’s simple to draw comparisons to movies like The Matrix, Inception, and The Thirteenth Floor. The film Bliss suggests that there is a utopian world and a synthetic world created by Dr Isabel called the Brain Box. In the BrainBox, users may immerse their brains in a world established in the early twenty-first century, allowing them to enjoy Utopia after they leave. The BrainBox has the side effect of causing people to forget about their life outside Utopia and instead take on the identity and memories of the world within the BrainBox — which is exactly what happened to Greg. Up to this far, the narrative and idea are both excellent. Beyond that, though, the film Bliss raises simply too many unresolved concerns.

  • If Kendo is simply another participant in the BrainBox project, why does he carry those yellow and blue pills?
  • When Isabel is inside the BrainBox, why does her personality change?
  • In Utopia, how may projections from within the BrainBox appear?
  • Why are guests at Isabel’s celebratory party suddenly agitated?
  • If Emily isn’t real, what is she doing in Utopia?
  • How did Greg get a still of Isabel from a scene that had not yet occurred?

Let’s attempt to follow the narrative while keeping in mind that the film is a metaphor rather than a literal science-fiction picture.

What happened to Greg, and who is he?

Greg is a drug addict with a serious addiction. He is divorced from his wife since his addiction seems to have destroyed his marriage in the past. Currently, he is residing at a hotel. Arthur, his son, is unwilling to forgive Greg for the suffering he has caused the family. Emily, his daughter, still loves him and hopes that one day he would clean up his act.

Greg can’t keep down even the most menial work because his drug addiction causes him to daydream and create drawings of a home he wants. Greg loses his job and is forced to live on the streets.

Greg – The Untrustworthy Narrator

There’s a moment in Greg’s office when the camera pans away from him and we hear him snort off-screen. Following that, there is a feeling of tranquility as the surrounding sounds fade away, and we see his wallet flashing. The events shown in the film are seen through the eyes of Greg, a heroin addict, and it’s conceivable that none of them are true.

Assassinating the Boss

When Greg is dismissed, he stands up and accidentally murders his employer, Bjorn. Bjorn is thrown into the air by the power of his getting up, falling with his head on the table and dying. Isn’t it a little unrealistic? Yes, since it’s most likely not true. Greg can only conjure up such a scenario. We find Bjorn alive later in the film, and when Greg approaches him, he calls security. Bjorn was restarted, according to Isabel’s explanation. Sure, like in The Matrix’s Deja Vu scene. But, if we go with the metaphorical theme, Bjorn never died, and Greg, according to him, is an unemployed drug addict whom he previously dismissed and whom he now calls security because he is potentially dangerous.

So, if Isabel isn’t Greg’s wife, who is she?

Isabel, in a metaphorical sense, symbolizes addiction and temptation. She declares, “You’re my soul mate.” Isabel symbolizes a higher degree of addiction and is Greg’s escape from the harsh realities of his existence. If we were to ask who Isabel is, we would have to say she is a homeless drug addict who may or may not be a streetwalker. Greg drifts farther away from his daughter as he spends more time with Isabel. By instilling in Greg a strong feeling that his life is fake, Isabel eliminates any shame from his thoughts for being unemployed and distant.

What are those yellow crystals, and what do they mean?

The yellow crystals are unmistakably pharmaceuticals. Greg starts to imagine that he has superpowers and can control anybody once he is on them. If you ignore the film’s sci-fi elements, it’s all just Greg getting high on a new substance.

So, what exactly are the blue crystals?

Greg’s next stage of drug addiction is represented by the blue crystals, which are even more powerful substances. Greg finds himself in Utopia during the first step after eating the blue crystals. Even though he has no recollection of his existence in Utopia, it all makes sense to him. It’s his everlasting happiness, and Greg embraces it immediately – a place he never wants to leave. This so-called “real world” is Greg’s easy getaway to a fictitious existence in which he is rich, happily married to Isabel, and a part-time inventor.

Why is it possible that Utopia exists solely in Greg’s mind?

Greg invented the Thought Visualizer in this fictitious utopian existence because he can’t seem to find the proper words to express his emotions. He continues telling his daughter, “I have so many ideas I wish you could see.”

Consider Isabel’s absurd tale about how a society rife with poverty and pollution became this beautiful utopia.

  • All of the environmental issues were solved thanks to synthetic biology. All.
  • Asteroid mining ushered in a rush of fresh cash. And the owner of the asteroid mining business just began giving away all of his free money. Sure.
  • All of the laborious duties were handed up to the robots.
  • Inside Isabel’s experiment, Greg’s dreadful existence is a ruse.

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? That’s very likely the case.

The whole Utopia narrative is, in my opinion, a comfortable fiction Greg is telling himself.

What impact does the BrainBox universe have on Utopia?

Simply said, Utopia does not exist; it is all a product of Greg’s imagination. The truth is that he’s laying someplace, tripping, and tripping badly. The only thing holding Greg together is his love for Emily. Emily’s presence in the guise of a ghost is his recollection of her bringing him back to reality.

In Utopia, how does Greg have superpowers?

Again, none of that is occurring; he’s just combining medications that are wreaking havoc on his mind. When the supply runs out, they’ll have to go out and get more.

Is Isabel responsible for Kendo’s death?

It’s difficult to say. Isabel is the temptation persona, and Kendo is the provider persona, if you think of it figuratively. I doubt the murder and carjacking took place since it’s not simple to get away with murder and carjacking. The murder, I think, symbolizes the degree of difficulty in obtaining the blue gems. It’s conceivable, though, that Greg was caught in the midst of a police raid and managed to flee. Perhaps it wasn’t a murder, but rather a drug raid in which police are looking for suppliers rather than addicts. This event serves as a wake-up call for Greg. The beauty of his actual existence, of what he’d been avoiding, overwhelms him, and he decides to embrace it.

The End of the Bliss Film: Which World Is Real?

The movie Bliss concludes with Greg being able to let go of Isabel, his drug-dealing temptation, and enjoy life. Greg admits to his drug addiction, enrolls in a treatment program, and claims that his daughter is genuine. This is his first move toward rehabilitation, and he eventually cleans up and reunites with Emily.

While we are repeatedly informed that Emily does not exist in the film, she is the sole source of truth in Greg’s existence. Her love for him keeps him bound, and she finally manages to turn him around and help him overcome his addiction. Greg eventually fulfills his commitment to see his daughter in the last scene.
